UNDER CONSTRUCTION - Great Ideas from people on the Web

So if you are going to be a good advocate for safety and security and possibly look at a career in Gunsmithing.  You never know.  The page will be devoted to some great ideas and links to things that may be cool.

Traveling Things

I found this short on Youtube and I love it.  It has a basic information about how to fly on a commercial airplane flight with your personal handgun.  Remember, where you are flying to and your ability to have your weapon in that jurisdiction.

I Brought a Gun on a Plan

Home Things

You need to make sure you have safe and legal storage space.  All weapons need to be secured and stored safely when not in your immediate possession.

I have purchased from Tractor Supply and from Bass Pro.  Keep an eye on the prices.  If you know what you want, then watch the price.  They do have some great sales.  In Massachusetts, there is no sales tax on a gun safe.

What I look for in a Gun Safe:
  • Fireproof - I want to make sure some things will survive a fire.
  • Sized to fit my needs and needs if I grow.  Also space to put in things that I want to protect. (Like purchase paperwork)
  • Not so large that I need a professional company to move it.
  • A quality base for it to sit on.  I use 4"x4" wood and 2"x6" or 2"x8" Pressure treated.  Any scrap 2"x will do though.  That gets your safe off the floor.
  • Door pockets and storage.  Depending on your needs you can buy a safe without any door storage and build your own for magazine storage or other things.  Even a Key organizer fits in well.
  • Fireproof document storage.  Some safes have them.
  • Nonfixed rifle storage.  Lets face it.  Unless you are cramming things in, you are never going to get 26 long guns in a 26 gun safe.  Consider using Rifle Rods as a better storage solution.  That will keep optics safe and your investments from banging each other.
  • Pistol shelf hangers are very handy.  You can hang your pistol below a shelf and keep the magazines above them.  I paid about $15 for a 12 pack of these a while back.  There are a bunch of different ones.  Get the best deal.

Workshop Shop Things

This is video from DH Gunworks has great information on how his work space is set up.  Not everyone has space for a place like this but he is a professional Gunsmith.  Great bench ideas.

Pegboard and wall control is part of a great Workshop.  If done right, it can support your work for hours.  This is a video on metal pegboard I found interesting.

Basement Gun Room Ideas is a cool page.

Hidden Room

This guy built a thin room in his bedroom.  As he said, he went with the concealment versus ultra secure.  He also said that buing the new house he did not have the option of using a basement area for his room.  I think it is still worth a look

US v Deberry (1996)

This case tates that lawful possession of a firearm alone cannot constitute reasonable suspicion.

Don't be an asshole if you confronted but know your rights.
